The Birth of our Great Nation! Happy 4th of July!

THIS LAND WAS MADE
FOR YOU and ME!
Wishing you a Healthy, Happy, and Joyous
Fourth of July Holiday!

This Holiday, we celebrate our Nation's Birth -- and the birth of democracy world-wide. We also celebrate the birth of our nation's currency.

We take great pride in our nation's history-and seeing the rockets' red glare this Fourth of July will once again reignite our dedication to preserving history as we know it. Colonial notes are rare and extremely valuable. They were a significant part of our American heritage as an independent and free nation. To hold one of these notes is to hold a vital part of our social, economic, and political independence from Britain.

Happy Fourth of July to all -- and congratulations America for your economic "independence" and strength!

Do you want to begin a new currency/coin collection? Update an existing collection? Read on ...

How do I start a coin or currency

collection?

Collectors of coin and currency items do so for many reasons. One of the most common collector is the hobbyist who collects more for fun and appeal, rather than profit. Often, this attraction begins as a child who, by chance or purpose, receives an item that is both fascinating and historical.

Disney Dollars are highly collectable and increasingly rare!
An ever-more popular reason to pursue collecting of coins and currency is to do so as an investment.

Persons who use collections as a kind of investing do so with the idea that the value of the items, in singular or total, will increase over time. Supply and demand is the key concept here as well as a critical understanding that collections do not “make” money until they are sold and may even incur costs, such as the costs of safe and secure storage.

A third type of collector is the person who acquires a collection via inheritance. This person may or may not have any real interest in the items, but most certainly appreciates potential value.

One great advantage we have today is the internet. For example, take a careful look around our Treasuredstocks.com web site and you will see over 4,000 items, of all categories, grades, and prices, all graded and all in full color view. And now a bit about grading. A graded item allows collectors to speak the same language when it comes to the condition of the item.

The term “Numismatics” refers to the study or collecting of coin/currency. A numismatist is someone who does this by hobby or profession.  Here is a great web site to use, when learning more about such an exciting field. There’s even several links specifically designed for children.

Information about PICK Numbers ...

What is a PICK number,
for International Currency
(a.k.a. World Paper Money)

Treasuredstocks.com has listed Pick Numbers for our listed World Currency (non-US foreign) notes. Similar to Friedberg Numbers (for information about Friedberg Numbers, please refer to my previous blog post) identified and used for United States (US) Currency, Pick Numbers refer to a referencing and numbering system for International Currency items.
This PICK referencing and cataloging system is based on methods developed by Albert Pick and described in Standard Catalog of World Paper Money edited by George Cuhaj.

How do you spell "Dalmatians?"

101 Dalmations ... or is it Dalmatians?
Huge Disney Dollar Error

In 1961, The Walt Disney Company produced one of the world’s most beloved animation features titled, “101 Dalmatians.” A live action remake of this classic appeared in 1996.

Unfortunately, Disney Dollar creators and proof readers forgot how to spell “Dalmatians” when they produced the $1 Dalmatians Disney Dollar Currency note as part of the 2013 Heroes and Villains Series.

Cruella De Vil appears on the note’s front and Prongo and Perdita appear on the reverse, right along with the misspelled “101 Dalmations” banner.

[Note: Even Microsoft word alerts writers of the mistaken spelling].

Authors of a PCGS Currency web site posting have indicated that the actual quantity of these error notes making it into circulation is unknown; however “it is apparent that this will be a great find and an excellent addition to anyone’s Disney Dollar collection.”

I have lived through this history. Disney theme parks sold these notes only for about two weeks when an astute school teacher discovered and reported the error. Disney immediately pulled all of these errors! No corrected remake was ever produced. That means that whoever was lucky enough to have purchased the notes during that very short period of time (whether tourist or collector) had all of the available notes. Thus, Disney Dollar “Dalmation” errors are exceedingly sought-after and ever-more scarce!

Disney Dollar errors are exceedingly rare and an error of this magnitude is unprecedented.

Please check out our web site at

Treasuredstocks.com to learn more about the internationally acclaimed Disney Dollars or to see actual examples of Disney Dollar errors. We still have a few “Dalmatian” error notes available, but please contact us immediately, if interested.

For interest (and fun) here is a USA Today news item that describes the Disney Dollar Demise.

Series Numbers explained ...

What is a series number?

If you look at the front of a paper note or currency item, you will almost always see the year the item was designed and adopted. This is the series number. Be sure to notice, however, that the series number may be quite different from the year the note was actually printed! Therefore, the “series” notation is the first year that currency items, of that same design, were created. As a great reference method, Treasuredstocks.com includes series numbers for our currency items.

The note shown above is a series 1934

Friedberg numbers explained ...

"What is a Friedberg Number and
why is  it important," you ask ...

This  note has  Friedberg (Fr.) # 1609
Friedberg  Numbers  have become a very popular numbering system for United States Currency.

As a kind of reference and number system (not  unlike the Dewey Decimal System of cataloging print materials that many libraries use), the Friedberg Number refers to Arthur L. and Ira S. Friedberg’s Paper Money of the United States, the continuously updated, authoritative reference of US currency.   Thus, Friedberg Numbers are reference numbers enabling collectors and dealers to check years, even decades, of information relative to the scarcity and value of notes.

Treasuredstocks.com includes Friedberg Numbers for our legitimate US currency items.

Treasuredstocks.com is very proud to be able to list some of the most precious and valuable currency items in the world. We have over 4,000 items to choose from with huge variety and selections.
We are Official Dealers for PCGS and PMG grading institutes.

We are also members of numerous Numismatist organizations including Professional Currency Dealers Association (PCDA) and American Numismatic Association (ANA).

Treasured stocks.com was founded in 1987 to provide currency enthusiasts and investors with a wide choice of currency items. The site offers a range of national and international coins and currency for the value conscious currency collector and investor.
