Those Rare & Valuable WEB notes ...

But first, “What in the world is a WEB note?” you ask.  

Web notes (also known as Web Press Notes or “Webs”), are NOT error notes; Webs are a form of official U.S. currency (legal tender, one dollar Federal Reserve Series) designated by the way they were printed and produced.
This printing process is called the "web printing production" method of printing which involves printing on continuous rolls of paper. Offset, gravure (intaglio), and flexography are three types or methods of web printing production. However high-pressure web intaglio printing, front and back of the intaglio process, was a totally new idea.

Between 1992 and 1996, the BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) wanted to see if a web press that used continuous rolls of paper was easier, faster, and less costly when compared with traditional flat sheet printing techniques. The dollar bill notes they produced with this method are from Series 1988A, Series 1993, and Series 1995.

Bottom line for currency collectors is that this BEP experiment was a Total Disaster! This unstable press process created huge numbers of error notes. Most of these errors were destroyed but a few have “escaped” and are now deemed extremely rare and highly collectible. 

Why are WEB Notes scarce, exceptional, 

and highly collectible? 

Instead of being printed on one side at a time such as what happens with the standard sheet-fed operations, Web notes were printed on both sides, simultaneously (similar to how newspapers are printed), with continuous paper rolls. Because of the instability of this costly and wasteful process, BEP gave up on the experiment in 1996. 

US taxpayers paid the price for this mistake – totaling millions of dollars. Rare currency collectors world-wide are taking advantage of this huge BEP mistake!

Those incredibly RARE Barr Notes!

Barr Notes

 Do you own a currency note signed by Secretary of the Treasury Joseph W. Barr?

If so, congratulations! You are one of just a few lucky people to have this very rare note. Barr Notes are rare and highly sought-after by currency collectors young and old. Here’s why. 

Official US currency includes the signature of the Secretary of the Treasury, current at the time of printing.

Joseph  W. Barr became Secretary of the Treasury on December 21^st, 1968, just days before the end of the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidency. Barr’s term as Secretary ended on January 20^th, 1969 just as President Richard M. Nixon took office. 

That means that Joseph W. Barr was the US Secretary of the Treasury for less than one month, just 28 days!  This very, very brief 28 day time period classifies Joseph W. Barr as having the shortest term as Secretary in all of US history. 

What this means for currency collectors is significant because just 5 of the 12 Federal Reserve Districts issued notes bearing his signature and name. In fact, Barr didn’t begin signing notes until December 23^rd 1968, two days after his appointment began. Barr’s signature stopped appearing on US currency on the day of Nixon’s inauguration. This exceptional situation – never seen before nor after – has created an international “feeding frenzy” for these scarce and valuable notes. 

Joseph Walker Barr was born in Indiana in 1918. He earned a master’s degree (economics) from Harvard University. Barr was a WWII US Navy veteran (Bronze Star) and an Indiana-based US congressman (D). 

Holding true to his education and experience in economics, Joseph W. Barr became Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in 1963.

Collecting PROOF notes -- fun and profit!

Those perfect "PROOF" Notes .... 

There may be millions of pieces printed of regular currency; in contrast, perhaps only one or two PROOFS are printed -- making "PROOF" notes exceedingly rare and valuable.

Please notice that the "p" following proof note Pick numbers (P#:) refers to the "Proof" status of this special note.  

But what exactly is a "proof" note, you may ask. A proof banknote is one that is printed to test the engraved printing plates to see if the plates are appropriate and at least adequate (or not) for putting that currency item into full production.

Why Hansatsu Notes are also known as Bookmark Notes ...

Japanese Hansatsu or Bookmark notes

Shoguns were military leaders who dominated Japanese society from the 16th century until 1868. During this time, a coin shortage prompted local clans, merchants and banks to issue paper currency, in a varity of colors and sizes. These notes were called Hansatsu or bookmark notes.

These long and narrow notes are considered one of the most distinctive Japanese currency.

Printed with woodblock’s on high quality paper; Hansatsu was crafted by artisans who signed an oath of secrecy in blood. Each traditional note reflects a lost art form and shows flora, fauna or mythical figures in true Japanese style. Many also show vermilion validation stamps.

The Devil is -- indeed -- in the Details: Canadian Money Mis-step

Devil’s face Canadian notes

The "Devil's Face" relates to a huge media blitz that occurred immediately after the first printing of this note. 

Someone noticed the face of a devil embedded within the hair of the queen (front of the note in the queen's hair). Because of this outcry, Canada stopped printing the image and subsequent note and came up with a new replacement image. 

Thus, the "Devil's Face" Canadian Currency notes are extremely rare and highly collectible.

St. Anthony, Idaho -- NBN description

Idaho National Bank Notes – St. Anthony

Historically, the Idaho Territory was launched under President Abraham Lincoln. Idaho was the 43^rd state to join the union and became part of the United States back on 3 July, 1890. 

These dates are significant because Saint Anthony is the county seat for Fremont County and Fremont County, Idaho was the very first county created immediately after Idaho entered the Union -- organized by the legislature in 1893. Fremont County was named after the famous Western American surveyor and explorer, John C Fremont. Having been officially recognized in 1888, Saint Anthony was established years prior to Idaho’s statehood and the instituting of Fremont County.

Located in Eastern Idaho, Saint Anthony, Idaho is home for the world-famous Saint Anthony Sand Dunes which provide sport enthusiasts with camping, horseback riding and over 10,000 acres of dunes with elevations up to 400 feet. Saint Anthony (the largest city in Fremont County) and Fremont County, Idaho are just minutes away from Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
