Petr Jan Brandl was born October 24, 1668 in Prague, Kingdom of Bohemia. He died September 24,
1735 (at the age of 66). His nationality was Czech.
Petr Jan Brandl was a noted
painter and artist of incredible talent and style. He was part of the Baroque
movement. His father was a goldsmith.
In tribute, an entire hall at the
National Gallery in Prague (what is now Czechoslovakia) is devoted to his
works. Brandl is known for his 1725 painting titled “Bust of an Apostle.”
This
self-portrait was painted in 1700. This selfie Painting was engraved into the
Bohemia and Moravia 500 Korun banknote (1942) during Nazi occupation.
